FILLINGS IN TURKEY

My Nova Dental Clinic

What are fillings and what are filling types?

Fillings are composite materials used to fill the cavities after proper removal of the decay. Cleaning the decay is the first step in treating the cavities. After cleaning the cavity, compound materials are used to fill the cavity and the filling is moulded to the tooth structure.

The Filling Process

Most of the compounds hold on to the tooth, it does not stick on the surface. Hence, your dentist will make the necessary cavities to increase the holding surface for the compound. Preparation of the cavity is an essential part of the healthy filling. After the cavity is filled with the compound, the original tooth structure is moulded with care. Fillings, properly applied, will prevent bacteria from harming the tooth any further.

Filling Types

  • Porcelain fillings (adjustable to the teeth colour)

  • Amalgam fillings (metal fillings)

  • Inlays (cast fillings)

Only your dentist will decide if you need a filling or not. Your dentist will carefully inspect each tooth with the help of a small mirror. Your dentist will examine any problem area in detail with other special tools. Sometimes, an X-ray will be helpful to see the inner problems. Your dentist might request full or partial X-rays taken. Depending on the severity of the problems, your dentist will decide on the treatment.

What type of material is used?

The location of the cavity is a factor in deciding the material to be used. Each material has different strengths and esthetical specifications. On the rear teeth, strong material is preferred but in front teeth, there are more esthetical considerations.

  1. Porcelain Fillings, composites (compatible with natural teeth color)
They are esthetical materials but they are not as strong as amalgam. Since it is in white tones, it is classified as esthetical material.

  2. Inlays
Inlays are cast fillings. After your dentist prepares the cavity, a 3d model is prepared. In the laboratory, gold or porcelain replica is produced. Your dentist will carefully inlay the casted filling in place with the help of special bounding components.

Do fillings cause pain?

After two hours you can go back to your normal life. If it is your first filling, it will take some time for your tongue to adjust to the change. Some people might feel dizzy for a short time. Other than that filling will not cause any pain.

When do I need fillings?

If you have decay in your teeth, you should get treatment immediately. Otherwise, you will face the risk of losing your teeth or you might have infection problems. Fillings are quick and painless, not to mention economical compared to other treatments. If you don’t take the immediate treatment, you will end up needing longer, more complicated treatment.
